Meeting Theme, Word of the Day, Definition, and Quotes:
Theme: Songs for Sanity
There was a recent article about a study in Australia that showed that people who listen to music most days can reduce the risk of developing dementia by up to 39%. The study didn’t look at the type of music or how long each day music was listened to. For me, I thought “wow, finally something easy I can do that’s good for me!” I love music. Broccoli and yoga – not so much.
It also didn’t say whether you could just have music playing or if you had to actively engage with it – singing or playing along or moving/dancing. But hey, put on your favorite tunes and you may just boost your mood, get some exercise and re-live some good memories and if you’re warding off dementia at the same time, well BONUS!
WOD: musical
An adjective meaning “of, relating or producing music”

Theme: Change of season, change of mindset.
WOD: Catharsis/Cathartic
Historical definition: Conceived by Aristotle as the cleansing effect of emotional release that tragic drama has on its audience, catharsis stems from a Greek verb meaning “to purify, purge.” Today, it can be used to describe any emotional release, including a good long laugh or cry that is followed by a sense of balance and freshness afterwards.
Quotes: Why is the public so interested in movies about the wealthy? My answer is that Shakespeare wrote about kings. That’s where the action is. And it’s the classic, cathartic thing. You get to indulge in a lifestyle you’re not part of, a tragic error leads to a downfall, and you get to say, ‘Thank God I’m not him.’ – Nicholas Jareck (American Filmaker)
I have never been depressed or thrown a plate, which I attribute to the cathartic effects of writing books about people whose lives are more grueling than mine. – Emma Donoghue (Canadian Author & Screenwriter)
Sometimes punching a bag for half an hour was pretty cathartic and pretty necessary. – Esme Creed-Miles (English Actress)
